It’s a cliché to say that this peony stopped me in my tracks, but that’s exactly what happened. I had planted eight hundred peonies two years earlier with high hopes, not knowing quite what to expect. When they finally bloomed, I walked through the field until I stopped short, speechless. I’d never seen one in this colour, nor one with such an exquisite double bloom. This is the very first pailful of “Etched Salmon,” taken on my front porch just as I brought them in from the field.
